Magnetic resonance imaging, e.g. for angiograms of diseased arteries, showing contrast between blood and muscle tissue and suppressing fatty tissue

The method involves placing subject in a uniform magnetic field, to orient the longitudinal magnetism of the muscle tissue, the fatty tissue and the blood in the longitudinal direction of the magnetic field. A first inversion pulse is applied, to invert the longitudinal magnetization of at least two of these components. A second inversion pulse is applied, to invert the longitudinal magnetization of the fatty tissue. One or more high frequency pulses are applied, to measure the remaining longitudinal magnetization of the blood. An image of the subject is determined if the longitudinal magnetization of the muscle and lipid tissue is approximately zero.
