process for producing 2 - chlorine - 6 - nitrophenyl - alkylsulfanen and new 2 - chlorine - 6 - nitrophenyl - alkyl - sulfane

Prodn. of 2-chloro-6-nitrophenyl alkyl sulphanes of formula (I) comprises reacting a 2,3-dichloro-nitrobenzene of formula (II) with 0.9-2 (pref. 1-1.5) mol. of mercaptan of formula HS-R1 (III) in the presence of 1-1.2 (pref. 1-1.1) eq. of base per mol (III) and a phase transfer catalyst in an aq. or aq.-organic medium at 0-100 (pref. 20-80) degrees C. R1 = 1-18C alkyl, 3-8C cycloalkyl or 7-10C aralkyl; R2 = H, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy or benzyl. Also claimed are cpds. (I) except when R1 = Me, Et or benzyl and R2 = H.
