Pharmaceutical compositions and methods of using cholecystokinin-ligands (e.g. lorglumide) as antipsychotic, antianxiety drugs and agents useful in the treatment or prevention of withdrawal symptoms caused by withdrawal of chronic or long term use of diazepam, alcohol, cocaine or nicotine are described.
