The invention relates to an antibacterial composition for combating plaque, comprising a styrenephosphonic acid polymer or a copolymer of styrenephosphonic acid and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer. The polymer is chosen from a beta -styrenephosphonic acid polymer, an alpha -styrenephosphonic acid polymer and copolymers of one or other of these acids with at leat one other ethylenically unsaturated copolymerisable monomer. This polymer is, in particular, useful as an agent for stimulating antibacterial activity in antibacterial compositions for buccal use against dental plaque. Field of application: Dentibuccal hygiene products.
