The main chamber (8) has a fan (1) driving air through the evaporator (10), for cooling, and heat-exchanger (11), for heating. A central unit (20), complying with passenger-imposed settings, operates shutters (5, 6; 16, 17, 18) controlling fresh (3) and recycled (4) air intakes and various delivery ducts (12, 13, 14). Condensate formed at the evaporator mostly falls into a disposal funnel (25, 26), but some remains on the evaporator, where micro-organisms generate, during idle periods, unpleasant odours, annoying to passengers when operation resumes. The central controller (20) includes a purge program (27), which, for a short period, runs the fan, with all delivery shutters closed, and only the exterior air intake and a supplementary exit vent (28) open, to expel (F1, F2) the offensive material, before responding to any imposed operational setting (21).
