Novel cosmetic compositions contain an extract (I) of the plant Barringtonia, especially Barringtonia asiatica or Barringtonia racemosa, together with a cosmetic carrier. The cosmetic or dermatological use of (I) is also claimed. Barringtonia plants are members of the Lecythidaceae family and are found in New Caledonia.
