The invention concerns methods and devices for regulating power and formatting a high frequency signal transmitted by a portable radio. The device is made up of a power line (4) controlled by a formatting and regulating device (5) and connected to a radio antenna (3) by a directional waveguide coupler (10). The method consists in measuring a power level transmitted by the power line (4) and then in gradually increasing amplification gain of the power line (4) to increase the transmitted power up to a predetermined power value (Ps). The method consists then in maintaining the amplification gain at the resulting value when the transmitted power has reached the predetermined power and finally in reducing the gain to zero at the end of the broadcast. The invention is particularly applicable to radio broadcast systems such as portable radios.
