Molten metals and alloys continuously cast into an ingot mould (22) using the ''Hot Top'' technique are solidified by applying an electromagnetic field, produced from a current having a specific frequency, to a resonant cavity (10), to produce resonance in a molten metal or alloy held in the cavity.
