New process for the conversion of heavy petroleum fractions containing sulphur

A new process for the conversion of a hydrocarbon fraction having a S content of at least 0.5%, an initial B.Pt of at least 360 deg C. and final B.Pt. of at least 500 deg C., comprises the stages :- a) treatment of the charge, in the presence of H2, in a reactor containing a hydrodesulphurisation catalyst in a fixed bed, in conditions which produce a liquid effluent of reduced S content ; b) treatment of the effluent in a triphasic reactor in the presence of H2 and a hydrotreatment catalyst on a mobile bed, with an ascending flow of liquid and gas.The reactor has an outlet for the withdrawal of catalyst near the base and a catalyst supply point near the top of the reactor ; c) withdrawal of the treated product to a distillation zone from which gaseous, petrol and gasoil fractions are recovered, together with a liquid fraction heavier than gasoil.
