Making natural wood-veneered composite containing thermoplastic, optionally in unusually complex shapes

The veneer (13) consisting of natural or reconstituted wood is located on an internal mold (11) surface. Thermoplastic (15) is molded over the veneer. After extraction from the mold, the veneer is finished. An Independent claim is included for the product of this process. Preferred features: Injection molding proceeds under gas pressure. Alternatively, a preform is blown into the veneer-lined mold. In a further process, the plastic is co-extruded with the veneer. Before inserting the veneer into the mold, it is dampened to compensate plastic shrinkage during setting. The veneer is molded specifically to the same end. Reduced pressure induced between veneer and corresponding internal mold surface, keeps it in place.
