The respirator consists of a mask (1) with an inlet connected to the ambient air via an elongated hose (4) with a filter (8) on its free end. The hose end (4a) adjacent to the mask is fed with pure oxygen from a bottle and feed tube (5, 6) with a flow rate in proportion to the reduction in atmospheric pressure with altitude, the volume of the hose being sufficient to hold the flow during the expiration phase.
