Pure seeds of Nigella sativa or Nigella sativa extract are used in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of asthma/allegy in a mammal such as a human, wherein the medicament is presented in a form for short term therapy by administration over a period 1 to 30 days, preferably over 3 to 5 days, to produce a long term clinical remission of the type I hypersensitivity reaction/allergy over a period of months.
