PURPOSE: To lower energy by varying the high-frequency power level of an accelerating cavity, without greatly increasing the energy range of a beam emitted. ;CONSTITUTION: The accelerating cavity of a radio-frequency, quadrupole(RFQ) linac is divided along a beam axis on the basis of high frequencies, and the high-frequency power level of the downstream accelerating cavity 32 is lowered relative to that of the other cavity, and one of the accelerating cavities 31, 32 divided from each other is made to self-excite and the other is excited by other means, and a partition plate 51 is installed between electrodes 2 separated from each other along the beam axis, to divide the accelerating cavity on the basis of high frequencies. The high-frequency phase of the upstream accelerating cavity 31 is made variable relative to that of the downstream accelerating cavity 32, and a thin-plate area 60 is provided in the vicinity of the beam passing window 52 of the partition plate 51.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
