PURPOSE:To achieve long-time use by forming unequal electric fields in the vicinity of electrode needles and generating corona discharge within such a range that the electrode needles generate no dust and flocculating aerosol particles in air into large particles to collect the same by an ultrahigh performance filter. CONSTITUTION:In an unequal electric field generating apparatus 6, a large number of projection like electrode needles 3 are provided to a high voltage electrode 4 to which voltage of 2.5-5KV is applied and earth electrodes 5 are arranged in opposed relation to the electrode needles 3. An ultrahigh performance filter 7 filters the air passing through the apparatus 6. That is, by applying voltage of 2.5-5KV to the high voltage electrode 4, unequal electric fields are formed in the vicinity of the electrode needles and corona discharge is generated within such a range that the electrode needles generate no dust and aerosol particles in air are flocculated into large particles to be capable of being collected by the ultrahigh performance filter and this apparatus withstands long-time use.
