PURPOSE: To improve the easiness in treatment of a liquid slurry and the mechanical properties of a cured propellant by forming a polymer being normally liquid, containing nitrogen, and having a specified composition. ;CONSTITUTION: An ester formed by esterifying a monofunctional polyepichlorohydrin polymer with benzenesulfonyl chloride is reacted with sodium azide to obtain a poly(glycidyl azide) product comprising a polymer which is normally liquid, in which an glycidyl azido moiety containing 30-45.7 wt.% nitrogen exists because it is a non-detonating explosive and represented by the formula: R(G)nR1 (wherein n is 2-18; G is an azidomethyloxyethylene moiety; R is a monovalent residue of an organic initiator compound or a monovalent alkyl; and R1 is a monovalent alkoxy, an oxyaryl or a combination thereof, or an azido moiety; or R and R1, when the polymer is a cyclic compound, should not be substituted with an explosive nitrogen-containing moiety other than the azido moiety and therefore should not contain carbon-oxygen bond to eliminate a moiety reactive with a isocyanate.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
