PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable character input in a natural style and to perform a faster character input process by converting a phonetically mismatching candidate character in a reading character string into a phonetically mismatching character having the same pronouncing method when a previously set conversion condition is met. SOLUTION: When an indication for the conversion of a reading character string 'watasiwa' is inputted, a conversion engine part 205 inputs the reading character string 'watashiwa' from a storage part 203. A phone conversion part 207 decides whether or not the character at the tail of the character string is 'w' or 'e', or 'o'. When a phonetically mismatching candidate character is decided, the phone conversion part 207 converts the character 'wa', 'e', or 'o' at the tail of the character string into a correct character 'ha', 'he', or 'o'. The phone conversion part 207 has a correspondence table for converting the candidate characters 'wa', 'e', or 'o' into correct corresponding phonetically matching characters 'wa', 'he', or 'o' and converts the phone according to this correspondence table.
