A protein that suppresses the function of STAT proteins in mammalian JK / STAT signaling systems and is characterized by having a SH2 region that is induced by STAT3 or STAT6 and inhibits tyrosine phosphorylation of gp130 and STAT3, and this Tampa DNA encoding proteins is disclosed. Disclosed are methods for screening a substance having a cytokine regulator action using a protein of the present invention. There are also disclosed antisense DNA and RNA to inhibit the biosynthesis of the protein; monoclonal antibodies capable of binding to the protein; probes DNA and RNA hybridizing to the DNA. Further, there is disclosed a method for screening recombinant DNA incorporated in a replicable vector; its transformant; and a method for screening a substance having a cytokine regulator action using a transformant.
