PURPOSE:To obtain a soil structure suitable for various uses, capable of suppressing evaporation of water in soil. CONSTITUTION:An artificial water retaining soil structure has a hydrophobic layer composed of hydrophobic particles on soil containing a water retaining agent. The hydrophobic layer may exist through a soil layer containing no water retaining agent on soil containing the water retaining agent. A soil layer containing no water retaining agent may sometimes exist further on the hydrophobic layer composed of the hydrophobic particles.
