PURPOSE: To prevent generation of a recess type flaw so as to suppress a coating bank when a thin film is coated so as to accomplish uniform image formation by restricting surface roughness within a specific range in the circumference direction of an aluminum base pipe. ;CONSTITUTION: Drawing or ironizing is carried out for a photosensitive drum aluminum base pipe 1, and its surface roughness in the circumference direction is controlled to be Rmax 0.5-1.0μm. As a stripe flaw 2, which is due to die meshes and the like, extends in the longitudinal direction of the base pipe 1, in other words, in the machining direction for the base pipe 1, the stripe flaw 2 can be detected when unevenness in the circumference direction is detected. If the surface roughness in the circumference direction of the element pipe 1 exceeds 10μm by Rmax (maximum height), a wrinkle flaw 3 remains and causes a coating bank when the base pipe 1 is used as a photosensitive drum in thin film coating of the photosensitive layer. If Rmax is 10μm or less, a coating bank makes no trouble. If Rmax is 0.5μm or more, lubricating oil penetrates in a recess part on the element pipe surface and formation of oil bit can be prevented.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
