PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of preparing antibacterial silica gel wherein water resistive fixation is made in spite of containing a specific antibacterial component from a plant in organic material and displaying antibacterial property through the slow elution of the antibacterial component at a limited rate over a long period of time at the time of being used in a way of coming in contact with water. ;SOLUTION: A silicate aqueous solution is mixed with an acid to make pH adjustment to form hydrous silicic acid gel. This hydrous silicic acid gel is washed with water to eliminate ion and then dried to prepare silica gel. In this case, an antibacterial component of a polyphenol compound from a plant is added before mixing the silicate aqueous solution with the acid, at the time of mixing or before the completion of gelling reaction after mixing to contain the antibacterial component in the silica gel.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
