PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for degrading an organochlorine compound by using a microorganism capable of completely degrading the organochlorine compound without forming a toxic substance, and obtain the microorganism suitable for the method. ;SOLUTION: This method for degrading a hardly degradable organochlorine compound comprises the first step for degrading the hardly degradable organochlorine compound such as a polychlorobiphenyl by the first microorganism capable of degrading the organochlorine compound having ≤3 number of substituted chlorines and the second step for degrading the hardly degradable organochlorine compound after carrying out the first step by the second microorganism capable of degrading at least the organochlorine compound having 5 or 4 number of the substituted chlorine. The hardly degradable organochlorine compound is degraded by Rhodococcus opacus TSP203 which is a new microorganism and used as a means of solving.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
