PURPOSE: To provide a measurement method and a device comprising the use of a combination of two kinds of density measurement means, in order to rapidly and accurately measure density of a solid transported by steam power. CONSTITUTION: A suspension density of a solid which is transported by steam power such as a coal is measured by using a combination of a radial γ ray density meter and a rapid response type second density meter. The combination is required to improve accuracy and response time as desired. The second measurement means is used to utilize its fast response time, and this can be used for control operation condition of a gasification device. The radial measurement means is, though measurement speed is slower, more accurate, and is used for re-calibrating the measured value of the second density measurement means for each 10 seconds, and further, used for correcting its fluctuation. Since fluctuation of the second measured value occurs relatively later, high accuracy is maintained by the re-calibration.
