PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating method of a suspended matter separator, which enables inhibition of any reduction in filtration performance of a separation film module that is provided with a porous film having a shape memory function, and realization of a permeation stage and a washing stage, each capable of being operated over a long period, and also to provide a suspended matter separator. ;SOLUTION: This method is intended for operating a suspended matter separator using a separation film module 2 provided with a separation film which consists of a porous film having a shape memory function and a reinforcing base material. In the operating method, when the film surface on the primary side of the module 2 is clogged by performing a normal suspended matter separation operation of the suspended matter separator and accordingly the permeation rate is reduced, the pore size of the porous film is enlarged as compared with the pore size in the normal operation and a back washing operation for efficiently releasing suspended matter deposit from the film surface is performed, by using a cleaning fluid heated to a temperature higher than the glass transition temperature of the material of the porous film, wherein all three-way switching valves 5, 6 and 7 are operated so as to transfer the cleaning fluid in a cleaning fluid vessel 4 to a raw material vessel 1 while passing the cleaning fluid through a motor-driven suction pump 3 and the separation film module 2.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
