Method for promoting germination and early growth of plant seeds

PURPOSE:To provide a method for promoting the germination and the initial growth of a plant seed, effective in promoting the germination and especially useful for the treatment of rice seed by treating a plant seed with uniconazole or uniconazole P before germination. CONSTITUTION:The germination and the initial growth of a plant seed can be promoted by immersing a seed with an aqueous solution of uniconazole [(RS)-(E) compound] or uniconazole P [(S)-(E) compound] having a concentration of preferably about 0.1-10ppb before germination or spraying the aqueous solution to the seed (especially preferably rice seed). The plant to be treated by this process is Japanese radish, carrot, spinach, etc., in addition to rice.
