PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a safe polymeric flocculant such as polyacrylamide usable in the treatment of tap water without leaving an acrylamide monomer.;SOLUTION: A polymeric flocculant is prepared by irradiating a synthetic org. polymeric flocculant with rediation to subject a monomer in the org. polymeric flocculant to radiation polymn. to reduce the amt. of the monomer. By irradiating a synthetic org. polymeric flocculant with rediation to subject a monomer in the org. polymeric flocculant to radiation polymn., the monomer of the polymeric flocculant is removed.
