PURPOSE:To provide the subject cutting tool improved in toughness. CONSTITUTION:Al2O3 powder is incorporated with 0.02-1wt.% (based on the whole; all the followings are wt.% based on the whole) of at least one kind of powder selected from carbonate powder, nitrate powder, chloride powder and oxide powder respectively of Ca, Ba and Sr and 0.02-1wt.% of SiO2 and/or an alkoxide, and the resultant mixture is heated to 600-1050 deg.C in an oxidative atmosphere and kept at the final temperature. Then, the resultant mixture is incorporated with 3-30wt.% of ZrO2 powder and/or partically stabilized ZrO2 powder and 3-30wt.% of at least on kind of powder selected from TiC powder, TiN powder, TiCN powder and SiC powder, followd by molding into a form, which is then sintered to obtain the objective cutting tool.
