PURPOSE: To obtain a medicinal agent having synergistic effect in hypertension therapy, by containing a calcium channel blocker and a calcium compound. CONSTITUTION: This medicinal agent, which contains a calcium channel blocker (e.g. nifedipine, verapamil) and a calcium compound (e.g. calcium carbonate), is obtained by formulating these active ingredients with a pharmaceuticallypermissible vehicle followed by pharmaceutical manufacturing by a conventional means. The amount of the calcium channel blocker to be formulated is such as to be enough to depress block pressure by 10-50%, that is, for the weight ratio of the calcium channel blocker to calcium compound (nifedipine/calcium carbonate) is (1:400) to (1:17), while verapamil/calcium carbonate (1:22) to (1:3). This medicinal agent is prepared into a form of tablets or capsules.
