PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly distribute all color areas by judging a distance between a color placed at any arbitrary position on a color space coordinate and an adjacent color at the time of mapping that color and mapping a value weighed by this distance and the quantized values of the present color and adjacent color. SOLUTION: An MMD two-dimensional plane is partitioned with lines 11 and 12 parallel with an ax axis, line 13 parallel with a max direction and line 14 parallel with a min direction and color information included in areas C1-Cn inside respective blocks is mapped into same value in respect to the respective areas C1-Cn so that color quantization can be executed in the MMD area. Therefore, the distance between the color at any arbitrary position on that color space coordinate and the adjacent color is judged and the value weighed by this distance and the quantized values of the present color and the adjacent color are mapped. Thus, all the color areas can be uniformly distributed and the color can be quantized so that the change of the color can uniformly appear at the visual viewpoint of human being.
