Metal-coated melamine-formaldehyde resin fibres in which the coating is obtained by first reducing a water-soluble metal salt using a more electronegative metal or metal salt, or first reducing a water-soluble metal salt using a hydride compound and then applying the desired metal to the fibre by reduction of one of its water-soluble salts with a reducing agent in the presence of a complexing agent.
