PURPOSE:To offer a stainless steel having sufficient high temp. oxidation resistance even if it is foil and free from abnormal oxidation without increasing the amounts of rare earth elements, Y or the like to be added, in a Fe-Cr-Al- REM.Y series having a specified compsn. by regulating the amt. of Mn to less than a specified value. CONSTITUTION:This ferritic stainless steel contains =0.O3% C, 0.25 to 0.5% Si, 0.25% Mn, =0.03% P, 0.001% S, 15 to 25% Cr, =0.03% N, 3 to 6% Al, 0.01 to 0.15% of one or more kinds among rare earth metals, Y and alkaline earth elements and the balance Fe. Mn improves its hot workability, but, it exerts an adverse influence on the high temp. oxidation resistance of the above steel and thus, by reducing its amt. to 0.25%, its high temp. oxidation resistance can remarkably be improved. Therefore, its high temp. oxidation resistance can be improved without increasing the amounts of Cr, Al, rare earth elements, Y or the like to be added, compared to those of the conventional one.
