PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new bacteria, ice-nucleation active bacteria having ice-nucleation active function in a specific low-temperature range such as Pseudomonas syringae or Erwinia ananas, useful in enhancing ice-nucleation activity and producing gel-like or porous materials.;SOLUTION: This new kind of ice-nucleation active bacteria consists of Pseudomonas syringae SEI-1 strain, Ni23 strain, or Mei40 strain, or Erwinia ananas TM2 strain, or Mei7 strain, or a strain with enhanced ice-nucleation activity obtained by culturing one of the above-mentioned strains in the presence of a saccharide or glycerol, being useful in enhancing ice-nucleation activity, producing filmy, porous or gel-like polymeric materials or ice nucleus-forming materials, and in the concentration and recovery of proteins. This ice-nucleation active bacteria, for example, Pseudomonas syringae Mei40, is obtained by the following procedure: mulberry plant leaves or insect mulberry pyralid is put into a mortar and thoroughly ground in the presence of an appropriate amount of sterilizing water and then cultured in a medium, and the resulting single colony is subjected to pure culture.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
