PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable precipitation detection method and precipitation detection device not erroneously deciding that movement such as a jump is precipitation. ;SOLUTION: In this precipitation detection method, an acceleration of a fall of a protected object to be protected is detected, and precipitation is decided when reduction of the acceleration below a prescribed value keeps for a prescribed time. This precipitation detection device has a position detection means 11 capable of distinguishingly detecting upward movement and downward movement of the protected object, and a position decision means 12 for detecting that the detection position of the position detection means 11 moves below an initial position. In the case of simultaneous presence of both the detection output of the position decision means 12 and the detection output of the reduction of the acceleration below the prescribed value, the precipitation is decided.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
