PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicone rubber base compound for wire coating use having excellent moldability before curing and suitable as a principal agent for a silicone rubber composition for wire coating after curing, provide a silicone rubber composition for wire coating use having excellent moldability before curing and giving a silicone rubber coating material having excellent electrical insulation after curing and provide a process for producing a silicone rubber- coated electric wire having excellent electrical insulation in high productivity. ;SOLUTION: The objective silicone rubber base compound for wire coating use has the following extrusion characteristics. When the compound is extruded with an extruder provided with a variable-type screw having an L/D ratio of 10 and a die having a diameter of 1.0 mm at a barrel temperature and a head temperature of 70°C, the extrusion rate per minute at a screw rotation speed of 100 rpm is ≥1.2 times the extrusion rate at a screw rotation speed of 50 rpm.
