PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost and to eliminate the need for previous registration by making decision as to whether an uttered speech coincides with a prescribed speech unit or not in accordance with a free speech score. ;SOLUTION: A system 10 starts calculation of a word score by the sub-word spelling of the stored former name. The word score, also described as a force vocabulary score, indicates the probability that the sub-word spelling of a character string coincides with the received uttered speech. When both of the free speech score and the word score are calculated, the system 10 makes decision as to whether the uttered speech coincides sufficiently with the stored former name or not in order to enable a customer to access the information stored in a customer data base 162. More specifically, a CPU 140 makes decision as to whether the received speech utterance coincides with the stored character string of the former name of the customer's mother or not in accordance with both of the free speech score and the word score by a discrimination algorithm program 156.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
