PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily recognize a variable number at the time of correcting a source program by retrieving the variable number stepwise by means of a conversation with a user and excluding the retrieval of the unnecessary variable number. ;SOLUTION: A variable number retrieving part 16 refers to variable number relation information 22 and variable number defining information 24 held in an analysis result storing part 14 and retrieves the variable number which is directly related to the variable number designated by a retrieval designating part 18. A display part 20 displays the variable number retrieval result by the retrieving part 16 in a form to be usable for designation in order to retrieve it again by a retrieval designating part 18. Since the retrieval which is executed in the lump so far is executed stepwise by the conversation with a user in the variable retrieving device, the retrieval can be continued by excluding a different variable number on the spot when it is retrieved. Therefore, only the variable number being directly related to the designated variable number is displayed as the retrieval result so that a work amount concerning the recognition and the correction of the retrieval result at the time of correcting the source program is drastically reduced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
