PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable integrated pass-through and load/unload by operating a rotary robot in response with a 'library load/unload' command to position a housing to the portal of the library, operating an actuator to extend a housing into the portal and loading or unloading a memory medium. ;SOLUTION: When the rotary robot 26 moves the housing 30 to a bulk load/ unload position 34, a door 38 is unlocked and an operator stretches his or her hand to the pass-through and load/unload system 25 and is able to unload a magazine 37 from the housing. The library operates its picker and can load the magazine 37 from the library. When the completion of the load/unload is indicated, the actuator retreats the housing from the portal toward a revolving shaft and the 'bulk load/unload' command is issued.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
