NEW MICROORGANISM HAVING FAT AND OIL DECOMPOSING ACTIVITY, AND TREATMENT OF WASTEWATER CONTAINING FAT AND OIL USING THE MICROORGANISM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new microorganism belonging to the genus Staphylococcus, having decomposing activity on animal/plant oil and fat, and capable of performing the decomposition and removal of the fat and oil in wastewater in high efficiency and safety when used in a treating facility or apparatus or the like for wastewater containing the oil and fat. ;SOLUTION: A new microorganism Staphylococcus saprophyticus OD-1 (FERM P-17201) having decomposing activity on animal/plant oil and fat. When used in a treating facility or apparatus for wastewater containing the oil and fat, the microorganism can remove the fat and oil in wastewater in high efficiency and safety. The new microorganism is obtained by subjecting microorganisms collected from soil to enrichment culture and screening using a medium containing 10% a commercial salad oil to isolate a microorganism strain having oil and fat decomposing activity. The obtained OD-1 strain has an extremely high growing speed, and high oil and fat decomposing activity, and a growing curve and a decomposition of oil and fat curve both reach high values in 24 hr.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
