PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object variable explaining or predicting method capable of accurately explaining or predicting an object variable. SOLUTION: The method is provided with explanation variable synthesis parts S1 to Sn for respectively generating explanation variables based on candidate explanation variables, a regression analysis execution part 1 for generating a relational expression for explaining a change in an object variable based on the explanation variables generated by the synthesis parts S1 to Sn, a suitability judging part 2 for quantitatively evaluating the suitability of the relational expression generated by the execution part 1 and a best regression type determination part 3 for searching an explanation variable having the highest suitability and a regression expression. Candidate explanation variables inputted to the synthesis parts S1 to Sn are set up by an explanation variable generation parameter outputted from the determination part 3. The synthesis parts S1 to Sn can output the combination of the candidate explanation variables and results obtained by applying any arithmetic processing to the candidate explanation variables as explanation variables in addition to the candidate explanation variables themselves.
