DEVICE AND METHOD FOR CALCULATING FRACTAL DIMENSION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly calculate a fractal dimension. ;SOLUTION: A binary image storing means 1 stores a binary image of which luminance value is '1' or '0'. An OR calculation means 2 hiearchically and repeatedly calculates the OR of adjacent luminance values from the binary image. A number-of-high luminance pixels calculation means 3 calculates the total number of values of which OR is '1' as the number of high luminance pixels in each hierarchy. A fractal dimension calculation means 4 finds out the inclination of a graph generated by plotting the high luminance pixels on the coordinate axes of the number of hierarchical levels and the number of high luminance pixels and calculates the inclination as the fractal dimension.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
