PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for genetically transforming a C3 plant by incorporating a C4 photosynthesis circuit therein, to give the excellent characters of the C4 plant, e.g. those for improving photosynthesis capacity, dry product productivity, resistance to dryness, resistance to strong light and photosynthesis capacity at a low CO2 condition, to the C3 plant by driving the circuit. ;SOLUTION: This method provides a C3 plant with a C4 photosynthesis circuit by incorporating a gene coding for phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC), another gene coding for NADP-malic enzyme (NADP-ME) and still another gene coding for pyruvate phosphate dikinase (PPDK). The NADP-ME is preferably of a chloroplast type, which is manifested to a high extent in the chloroplast of the C3 plant under the influence of a promoter capable of manifesting it peculiarly to the photosynthesis organ, in order to incorporate a part of the C4 photosynthesis circuit, similar to that of the NADP-ME type C4 plant, into the C3 plant.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
