PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an IR sensitive mixture that can easily be developed with an aqueous alkali solution without carrying out a processing step after it is imagewise exposed with a laser and to obtain a recording material using the mixture. SOLUTION: The positive type radiation sensitive mixture contains an organic polymeric binder insoluble in water but soluble or at least swellable in an aqueous alkali solution and at least one IR absorbing cyanine dye of the formula having a betaine structure or having a betaine structure and containing an anion.
