PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a character recognizing device capable of surely detecting a character that is not recognized due to some cause and improving the efficiency of correcting work of recognition results. ;SOLUTION: This device has an image inputting means 11 which inputs an original, a position information detecting means 18 which detects position information showing the position of a character in an image from an inputted image obtained by the means 11, a character recognizing means 14 which recognizes the character from the inputted image obtained by the means 11, a falsely recognized character or the like detecting means 19 which detects a place that is not recognized from recognition results obtained by the means 14 and also performs processing that eliminates the unrecognized place from an object image to be an object based on the position information obtained by the means 18.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
