PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the turbidity of filtered water with an accuracy of 0.1 degree. ;SOLUTION: A flowmeter 16 and regulating valve V1 are connected in series with a cell 11, a flow rate is made constant, and inspection water (filtered water) is allowed to flow. Laser beams from a laser beam source 12 are condensed by a lens 13 and are transmitted through the cell, and the transmitted light is received by a photodetector 14. When a turbid particle in the inspection water shields laser beams, pulses are generated in the electrical signal of the photodetector 14. The pulses are amplified by an amplification circuit 15, and a CPU 21 calculates how many times the pulses occurred per unit time and per unit flow for obtaining the number of particles and converts the number to turbidity. Transmission light is a strong laser beam where luminous flux is focused, thus reducing a cell length. Therefore, by detecting that the turbid particle has blocked the luminous flux, the turbidity is obtained by operation, thus measuring the turbidity with an accuracy of 0.1 degree.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
