PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wear resistant piston ring made of an aluminum vacuum- infiltrated ferrous sintering material with excellent wear resistance and low attackability. ;SOLUTION: A wear resistant piston ring is composed of an aluminum vacuum-infiltrated ferrous sintering material obtd. by vacuum-infiltrating Al or an Al alloy into a wear resistant ring body composed of a ferrous sintering material having a compsn. contg., by weight, 0.5 to 5% C, 0.2 to 1% Mn, 0.05 to 1% S, 0.05 to 1% B, 0.5 to 5% C, 1 to 12% Ni, 0.5 to 5% Ti and 8.5 to 20% Cu, furthermore contg., at need, 0.1 to 2% Mo, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and 10 to 30% porosity, and in which the base has a structure essentially consisting of austenitic phases, and in which free graphite is precipitated and grown in the pores.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
