PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate a simple design of a diesel engine without sacrificing performance and efficiency. SOLUTION: This two-stroke diesel engine scavenging in a longitudinal direction has at least one cylinder 2. The cylinder 2 is provided with a piston 3 movable in a back-and-force direction. The diesel engine comprises a top and side surfaces 42 and 41 in contact with a combustion chamber 8 of the cylinder 2 in an assembled state, a mounting opening for mounting an injection nozzle 5 for introducing fuel into the combustion chamber 8, and an exhaust valve 6 for discharging a combustion gas from the combustion chamber 8.
