PRINTING INK AND COATING MATERIAL CONTAINING POLYVINYL BUTYRAL BASED ON PARTLY HYDROLYZED POLYVINYL ALCOHOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a printing ink or a coating material which has a high pigment content at a specified viscosity by incorporating, into the same, polyvinyl butyral which has a specified degree of acetalization and is prepd. from polyvinyl alcohol having a specified degree of hydrolysis. ;SOLUTION: Polyvinyl butyral which has a degree of acetalization of 45-80 mol.%, pref. 60-80 mol.%, and is prepd. from polyvinyl alcohol having a degree of hydrolysis of 70-96 mol.%, pref. 75-90 mol.%, is incorporated. Pref., the polyvinyl alcohol used has a degree of polymn. of 200-3,500, still pref. 250-1,000. Pref., the content of polyvinyl butyral of the resultant printing ink or coating material is in the range of 1-25 wt.%. Thus can be obtd. a pigment paste colored with a pigment to a high degree, from which a low-viscosity printing ink and a high-solid coating material can be prepd.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
