PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively control the crystalline orientation of a precipitated film by selecting the installation posture of a substrate and the direction of application of magnetic field to the environment of electrodeposition or non-electrolytic deposition according to a desired crystalline orientation in the precipitated film. ;SOLUTION: A substance of an electrodeposition metal 2 is electrodeposited in an ionic condition on a substrate 1. A method for applying magnetic field includes a case that the magnetic field is applied perpendicularly to the substrate 1 and the plate surface of the electrodeposition metal 2, and a case that the magnetic field is applied parallel thereto. When the electrodeposition is achieved in this magnetic field application, the crystalline orientation is controlled by the magnetic field, and a thin film of the arranged crystalline orientation can be grown on the substrate 1. As a result, a functional material excellent in thermoelectric conversion efficiency, corrosion resistance and wear resistance can be obtained.
