PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the oscillation of the input current of a cycle-converter by generating the carrier period turning on/off signals of bidirectional switches from input/output information and switching patterns and, at the same time, generating switch drive gate signals at a drive section. ;SOLUTION: A switch signal generating section 31 outputs the turning on/off signals of nine bidirectional switches 11-19 from a drive section 32, in accordance with switching patterns SP0h, SP1h, SP0m, and SP1m from a switching pattern generating section 26, the section numbers 1C1-1C3 of input current commands and section numbers 0C1-0C3 of output voltage commands from a first information updating section 29, and a reference signal Be from a second information updating section 30. Since the turning on/off signals are distributed to three output phases from only two switching patterns generated from only output interline voltage commands, the amount of on-line calculation of a CPU for control becomes smaller and a control circuit can be made simpler. The information updating means control the input top phase and input set phase so that the phases do not change during the turned-on periods of the bidirectional switches between each output phase and an input 'Top' or 'Set' phase.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
