PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for screening a compound which controls the differentiation of the adipocyte by culturing versatile mesenchyme system stem cells in the presence of prolactin or a compound having the same effect. SOLUTION: Based on an applicants' finding that prolactin, which is a component of fetal bovine serum(FBS), has an ability of inducing the expression of C/EBP gene in a versatile mesenchyme system cell and PPAR gene and differentiating a versatile mesenchyme system stem cell into adipocytes, a method is provided for differentiating a versatile mesenchyme system stem cell into adipocytes by culturing versatile mesenchyme system stem cells in the presence of prolactin or a compound having the same effect. This differentiation system into adipocytes using prolactin allows screening of a compound which controls the differentiation of the adipocyte.
