PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-quality glass product through suppressing bubble production in a molten glass by using a material with platinum as the matrix and osmium content as impurity at a specific level or lower as a liner for a glass smelting furnace. ;SOLUTION: This high-quality glass product is obtained by the following process: a glass raw material is melted in a melting tank 2 of the glass melting furnace 1, a defoaming agent is then added to the molten glass in a clarifier 3 to remove the bubbles and dissolved gas component in the molten glass; the molten glass thus defoamed is held or cooled in a conditioning tank 4 to obtain a uniform temperature throughout the melt, the resultant molten glass is agitated in an agitating tank 5 so as to prevent any cords phenomenon, and then drawn in a molding section 6 into a plate glass; wherein a material for melting furnace, with platinum or platinum alloy as the matrix and osmium content as impurity at ≤20 ppm is used for lining at least the rear equipment (the conditioning tank 4, agitating tank 5, molding section 6 or discharge section 7, and glass molding mold 8).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
